British expert elevates Filipino design

Independent British fashion consultant Maureen Tomaney was resource speaker and facilitator to the recently concluded Fashion Definition Workshop held last  2-06 August at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City, reported the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Tomaney is a Research Fellow in Ethical Issues and Fair Trade at Central Saint Martins in London , where she is involved in the creative side of the fashion industry as well as the advancement of sustainability in fashion and textiles.

Cavite job fair caravan

Ricardo Martinez, Department of Labor and Employment regional director in the Calabarzon region, has reported, that 86 new workers have been hired on the spot in the last leg of a job fair caravan organized last week by the Cavite Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in cooperation with the CALABARZON PESO, Inc., PESO Managers’ Cavite Area Association, Inc. and the DOLE regional office.

“This may be just a number but it adds up to our goal and effort to seriously address unemployment in the rural areas,” Martinez said, adding that employment facilitation is part of the 22-point labor and employment agenda of President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Martinez reported that 62 local companies and 22 licensed overseas recruitment agencies participated in the job fair caravan, which was attended by 1,103 job applicants. 85 of the applicants were instantly hired …

Planning to work in Malaysia? Beware of Internet recruitment scam

Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday warned Filipinos planning to work in Malaysia about a recruitment scam being perpetrated through the Internet.

Baldoz aired the warning after receiving a report from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Kuala Lumpur saying there are mails proliferating in the Internet on an alleged notice from the Immigration Department of Malaysia about its visa processing requirements.

“Such notices are a hoax and prospective workers for Malaysia should be very wary about answering these hoax emails,” Baldoz warned.

She explained that the alleged notice from the immigration authority is sent as an e-mail to a prospective applicant informing him of a pending appointment letter from a certain company, Mobil Oil Company, which allegedly requests for the processing of the applicant’s documents.
