Local exporters to join two-week trade mission to Japan

In a bid to further accelerate Philippine exports to Japan, local companies from the fashion wearables and home furnishings sectors will participate in the two-week Philippine Trade Mission with Business Meetings to be held at Tokyo’s ASEAN-Japan Hall in July, reported the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

“The vision [here] is to increase awareness on Philippine products in the world’s second biggest market and of Japan as one of the top export destinations of products from the Philippines,” said DTI Trade Secretary Jesli Lapus in a statement.

Local companies committed to building a green future

In recent years, the quest for sustainable living has redefined conventions, including the way we view our public and private structures. This has paved the way for the growth of more breathable and environment-friendly “green” buildings in the country, sites that aptly demonstrate that nature and architecture can work together well.

Green building as defined by the Philippine Green Building Council (PhilGBC) is the practice of creating structures that are designed, built, renovated, operated or re-used in an ecological and resource-efficient manner.

DOLE addresses youth unemployment

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will improve the access of poor young workers to decent work to reduce youth unemployment in the next six years.

Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque said the DOLE has constituted the program steering committee (PSC) tasked to oversee the DOLE’s participation in the country’s implementation of the United Nations’ medium development goals- fund (MDG-F) joint programme on youth, employment and migration (YEM).
The MDG-F joint programme on YEM refers to the US$ 6 million initiative being funded by Spain called the “Alternatives to Migration: Decent Jobs for Filipino Youth,” which aims to improve policy coherence and implementation of YEM through full stakeholder participation in helping poor young men and women in the country gain access to decent work.

The DOLE Integrity Development Action Plan

The DOLE Integrity Development Action Plan (IDAP) was adopted as the National Anti-Corruption Strategy Framework of the Executive Branch in December 2004. It has 22 specific and doable anti-corruption measures, as follows :
On Prevention:

1. Strengthen internal control through institutionalization of Internal Audit Unit
2. Conduct of Integrity Development Review
3. Fast-track e-NGAS and e-bidding for the procurement of goods, services and infrastructure projects
4. Incorporate integrity check in recruitment and promotion of government personnel
5. Institutionalize multi-stakeholder performance evaluation system
6. Protect meager income of government employees
7. Adopt a single ID system for government officials and employees

1. Disseminate compendium of anti-corruption laws, rules and regulations

Changing the Face of Nursing in the Philippines

Ethel Doria Sinajon is a 42-year-old registered nurse and married with two children.
