Philippines an emerging destination for Halal-certified products

Consuming Halal-certified products is essential to the practice of the Islamic faith. It is important for Middle East countries to ensure that the meat and poultry they consume are genuinely Halal-certified to adhere to the lawful food prescribed for Muslim countries.

With this in mind, more and more food manufacturers from the Philippines acknowledge the importance and the salability of Halal-certified products.

DOLE launches first shipboard training

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has successfully launched the first shipboard training for its officials and staff on board Kapitan Felix Oca training ship as part of its efforts to gain better understanding of ship operation and improve programs and services for Filipino seafarers particularly in ensuring that their conditions on board are in accordance with the labor and health and safety standards.

Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque said that the shipboard immersion is the first in the saga of the DOLE particularly in the employment and over-all welfare of seafarers.

Philippines aims to get a slice of the billion-dollar game development industry

Philippine game development companies are eyeing their slice of the billion-dollar game development industry through their first participation at the Game Developers Conference on 09-13 March 2010 in San Francisco, United States, reported the Center for International Trade Expositions and Mission (CITEM), an attached agency of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

8,130 working youth benefited from DOLE’s computer skills training, livelihood projects

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) today said a total of 8,130 working youths have been assisted through the Working Youth Center (WYC) projects and Kabataan Information Technology Opportunities (K-ITO) in 2009.

Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque said the WYC and K-ITO projects have empowered the beneficiaries with the computer technology and entrepreneurial skills and on-the-job working experience they need for upliftment and development towards a more productive adulthood.

Roque, who was once an active youth leader also paid tribute to the indispensible role of the working youth in nation building on the occasion of the Working Youth Day last February 15, 2010.

Proclamation No. 1110 of 1973 declared February 15 as Working Youth Day.
