Ricardo Martinez, Department of Labor and Employment regional director in the Calabarzon region, has reported, that 86 new workers have been hired on the spot in the last leg of a job fair caravan organized last week by the Cavite Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in cooperation with the CALABARZON PESO, Inc., PESO Managers’ Cavite Area Association, Inc. and the DOLE regional office.
“This may be just a number but it adds up to our goal and effort to seriously address unemployment in the rural areas,” Martinez said, adding that employment facilitation is part of the 22-point labor and employment agenda of President Benigno S. Aquino III.
Martinez reported that 62 local companies and 22 licensed overseas recruitment agencies participated in the job fair caravan, which was attended by 1,103 job applicants. 85 of the applicants were instantly hired by zone locator American Power Corporation, while one applicant was hired by BPO giant Convergys.
Job fairs are staple programs of DOLE regional offices, which take advantage of the opportunity to also bring down to the local level relevant labor market information that will guide job applicants and employers in jobs with skills demanded by the labor market.
Martinez said that local and overseas employment of Cavitenos is also a priority agenda of Cavite governor Juanito Victor Remulla.
